PM Twilight Star Fix

Evening mirror of the dawn star fix — Stars tab, LOPs, Compute Fix, then sail into the night with a reset DR.

← Back to Daily Fixes

When

Sunset → civil dusk. Optional on the Daily Schedule. Same short twilight window as dawn — stars and horizon visible together.

If you miss it, FairWinds also offers an optional Night Fix later (moon/planets/stars); the in-game horizon stays usable at night.

In FairWinds (Guided)

  1. Open the Sky ToolWorkbookStars tab as the sky darkens
  2. Take 2–3 sextant sights (altitude 15°–65°, wide azimuth spread — see Picking Stars for a Fix)
  3. For each: LOPReduce Sight →Save LOP
  4. Select 2 or 3 Saved LOPs → Compute Fix (Selected 2–3 LOPs)Save Fix

The Daily Schedule checks this step off when a celestial fix mark falls inside the PM twilight window. Use Positions in the race viewer to build overnight DRs from that fix.

Why it matters

Best chance to end the day with a multi-body fix that does not depend on the sun-run chain. GGR-style practice prizes dusk and dawn for exactly this reason.

Optional — often the most valuable observation of the day.
