AM Twilight Star Fix

The best fix of the day — shoot 2–3 stars in the Stars tab while twilight still shows both stars and horizon.

When

Civil dawn → sunrise. Watch the Daily Schedule in the Cel Nav Workbook — this step is tagged optional and the window closes fast (roughly 20–30 minutes).

Use Solar Times (and your position reference / AP) so the schedule times match your DR.

In FairWinds (Guided)

1. Open the Sky Tool → Workbook
2. Confirm race + Position reference (or AP in Expert)
3. During the AM Twilight window, open the Stars tab
4. Tap Sextant, acquire a body, align to the horizon, Mark! → Save
5. Aim for 2–3 bodies, altitude 15°–65°
   • 2 stars → ~90° azimuth separation
   • 3 stars → ~120° spread for a triangle fix

6. For each sight: tap LOP → Reduce Sight → → Save LOP
7. Check 2 or 3 entries under Saved LOPs
8. Tap Compute Fix (Selected 2–3 LOPs) → review fix quality → Save Fix

Optional: Plot Selected LOPs or View Fix in 3D. The saved fix shows up in the race viewer Positions panel (refresh if needed).

Why it matters

A multi-star fix does not depend on a prior sun line or a long DR advance. If your DR has drifted, this is the observation that snaps you back before the day starts.

Expert mode

Same sights, but there is no LOP / Compute Fix path. Correct Hs as needed, reduce externally, then use the Fixes tab → Enter Fix (type Star Fix).
