Getting Started in FairWinds

5 tips to get sailing in 5 minutes.

1. Join a Practice Race

The practice races are short, easy courses designed to familiarize you with the boat controls.

From the dashboard:

Click on a highlighted practice race
Or click 'View all' to see other options
Click 'Register' to sign up
Click 'Sail' to join the race!

2. Watch the Tutorial

Once in the race viewer:

Click on the Nav menu (the book icon)
Choose "Show Tutorial"
Watch the quick flyover and explanation of the controls

You can run the tutorial as many times as you want!

3. Use the Compass

Turn your boat using:

The ← and → arrow keys
Or click and drag the blue diamond on the compass

Don't worry - your course will not change until you confirm it with the 'Set' button!

4. Customize Your View

You have a lot of control over the look of the charts and controls:

Wind visualization - Use the controls at the bottom of the screen to toggle wind display on/off
Colors and arrows - Customize how weather data is displayed
Chart layers - Show or hide different data overlays

5. Ask Questions!
